Harmony Hill School is a private, diploma granting institution, having licenses by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Department of Children, Youth and Families. Our faculty is comprised of certified special education teachers who are well versed in alternative teaching approaches and work in concert with the regular education teachers. This approach provides students with an opportunity to be successful in a nurturing and positive scholastic setting and promotes growth for all students at their individual levels.

An Individ ualized Educat ion Plan (IEP) is develo ped for each special needs studen t, upon admissi on and annuall y.  Individ ual and group therap y as well as therap eutic group living are integra l compo nents of the Individ ualized Educat ion Plan. Studen ts are encour aged to explore new and more effecti ve ways to deal with their specific challenges.  In addition, behavioral goals help the student in learning to accept responsibility for his actions, develop a sense of pride and show respect and consideration.

The academic program's distinctive teaching model is based on a comprehensive curriculum that incorporates the principles of active learning with emphasis on remediation for the younger students and adaptation for the older students.  Certified Teachers and Teaching Assistants work in classrooms with no more than ten students.

The school is structured in three tiers: Elementary, Middle, and Secondary. Work/Study, Technology Education, Art, Physical Education and Health complete the academic experience.  Students have access to computers in the classroom and in the media center.  Additionally, secondary students are offered a variety of electives.  Some examples include: student government, yearbook, newspaper, African American History, Career Education, 3-D graphics and art studies.  Throughout the curriculum, character building and peer relations are woven into daily lessons. All students receive instruction in Career Education and Computerized Technology Education. Pre-vocational assessment and work experience placement in the community, with job coaching, are available to boys who are eligible.
