SPRING 2007
BASIC NOTES RE: VISITING WEEKENDS
- For all youth placed in residence at HHS – the MINIMUM VISITATION their families will be afforded will be no less than two opportunities per month for
weekend on-campus visits AND on campus visiting during school recess periods. This complies with and exceeds the RI Children's Bill of Rights and the DCYF Child Care Regulations for residential treatment centers.
- Beyond that minimum, there is a standard visiting policy that applies across the Falcon, Dolphin and Mustang Units. Based on youth behavior, it allows
for substitution of OFF CAMPUS VISITS to replace on-campus visits and ALSO FOR INCREASED VISITATION BEYOND TWICE PER MONTH AND RECESS PERIODS.
- ON THE VISITING CALENDAR (above) – Whether the visit is to be on-campus or off-campus, the family is asked to plan the first visit in a month for the first weekend of the month – in each month in the calendar
above, that is labeled the "Visiting Weekend." The second visit and any additional earned visits are to be set up in advance by the family with the clinician.
- FOR YOUTH IN THE LION PROGRAM, THE TRANSITIONAL UNIT, AND AT HARMONY HOUSE – There are separate visitation programs which have been devised because of the particulars of those programs. Parents will receive
summaries of those visitation programs from the units. TU and Harmony House are small units. For the Lion Program (13 youth) which is a juvenile
justice program with most boys visiting only on-campus, there are specific weekends noted in the calendar above labeled "Lion Weekend." Note that a "Lion Weekend" always overlaps with the "Visiting Weekend."
